Curriculum & Instruction

The curriculum at The Vanguard School is created through research-based programs and aligned with the Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System (SAS). A Vanguard School education consists of rigorous academic programs, enriching classroom activities and community-based experiences. We set high expectations for students, teaching them to utilize skills acquired in school and apply them in real-world settings.
Through the Life, Career and Community Education (LCCE) curriculum, all students participate in experiences that recognize and develop their wide-range of abilities, interests and needs. All students receive instruction in the following areas:
- Reading, language arts, math, science and social
studies - Health, physical education, social skills, career
exploration and technology
Students across programs participate in transition and work-based learning activities. The work-based learning experiences provide practical career exploration activities whereby students learn more about themselves concerning their vocational likes, dislikes, interests and attributes.
