Mrs. Deborah Parkinson
My name is Deborah Parkinson and I've worked at The Vanguard School since January 1988. During my time here I've worn alot of different hats. I started out as a Lower School Assistant working with the Older Elementary students. After several years and the birth of my third child I became a Middle School Assistant and eventually an assistant in the High School.
During my time in the High School I worked closely with our PACE Instructors and really loved it. After training and certifications I became a PACE instructor. I started running the program myself after my supervisor left. I instructed classes with middle school, high school and our VTC students. Also during this time I organized many day and overnight adventures!
As the population and structure of our student started to change an opportunity for me to become a part of our Behavior team. Behavior and how our mind works has been an area that I've always have been drawn to. During this time I developed and improved our Reward system, continued to run the Ski and Snow Tubing Club and several other Incentive programs. After many years in behavior I was asked to assist in a classroom that was missing a teacher.
When Vanguard decided to create the Practical Assessment Exploration System on campus I loved the idea of supervising this program. The PAES program appealed to my "My Jack of a Trades. Master of a few!" philsophy! The PAES assessment helps to supply insight in our students' skills, abilities and strength in the workforce. The assessment also assist our post-secondary program in finding and placing students in work sites that they can be successful in.
