Position Summary

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of adults with disabilities?  
VFES has a new opening for an Employment Specialist to join Customized Workforce Solutions, our new employment services program, located in Berwyn, PA.  As an Employment Specialist, you will assist adults with intellectual disabilities in identifying vocational interests, setting employment goals, and obtaining and maintaining employment within the community.  You will also work with the Site Supervisor to establish relationships with local businesses and develop job and volunteer opportunities for clients.The position will require local travel to job sites and the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
This is a full-time, year-round position with full benefits --- paid health and dental insurance, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and a retirement plan.
The anticipated start date for this position is early March, 2018.

Position Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Social Work or a related field.
  2. Two years’ experience in a special education and/or social work setting directly supporting adolescents and/or adults with special needs. Job Coach experience is preferred.
  3. Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  4. Ability and willingness to travel; and work flexible schedules including some evenings and weekends.
  5. Current, valid driver’s license and insurance.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all stakeholders in a community based service (participant, families, funders, referral sources, business partners, and others).
  7. Ability to use computers and current software applications at a proficient level.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Meet with clients according to established contact guidelines, conduct assessments to determine vocational strengths, identify appropriate employment and/or volunteer opportunities, and provide guidance in obtaining and maintaining meaningful employment. 
  2. Provide individualized coaching and support to clients placed in community-based employment and/or volunteer positions. Work with employers to develop appropriate strategies, training plans, and fading schedules to assist the client in meeting job expectations.
  3. Complete all required intake forms to determine service and funding eligibility.
  4. Track client's work schedule on a continuous basis.
  5. Maintain appropriate records, logs, case notes, and expense reports for all clients on caseload ensuring all documents are accurate and submitted on time.
  6. Maintain frequent contact with all clients, their families, and other team members. Attend meetings on behalf of the client as needed.
  7. Provide travel training to clients and assist with transportation as needed.
  8. Establish relationships within the community to develop new employment and/or volunteer opportunities for clients. Analyze and develop support strategies to be used with the client to perform their job tasks.

  10. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VFES Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members.
  11. Maintain a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with employers, clients, colleagues, administrators, and others at all times.
  12. Successfully complete required trainings including Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) certification; and actively participate in in-service activities and meetings as required.
  13. Remain educationally informed through participation in continuing education, workshops, and/or seminars related to the delivery and funding of employment services for adults with special needs. 
  14. Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
