The Vanguard School presented the graduating class of 2016 during the annual Commencement Ceremony, Thursday, June 9. Families, friends and staff gathered to celebrate the 31 graduates at the Valley Forge Educational Services Activities Center.

Senior class president, Josiah Krauss, addressed his fellow graduates stressing the positive impact that The Vanguard School has had on their lives and encouraged them to be grateful for their education. He reminded his classmates that The Vanguard School is different than any other school because of them. He explained that it is the students that have helped to make the school such a unique and enriching experience.

David Warren, published author and novelist, was the guest commencement speaker. Recalling how he had always dreamed of becoming a writer, Warren explained that success takes persistence and dedication. “Take these next steps seriously,” explained Warren. He encouraged the graduates to never stop pursuing their dreams, no matter how far-fetched. “Never let anyone tell you that you are not good enough and that you can’t do it; because you are good enough and you can do it.”

Program Supervisors, Hugh Braun and Jennifer Schmidt, presented the diplomas, congratulating the graduates on an accomplishment that is incredibly meaningful in their lives as they continue a lifelong journey in which they will grow as active members of their personal, professional and global communities. 

Many graduates will continue their education at the Vanguard Transition Center and others will attend four-year, vocational-technical or community college.
