Vanguard Celebrates 25 Years of Homecoming Tradition
This year’s Homecoming at The Vanguard School was an extraordinary celebration, marking the 25th anniversary of this beloved tradition. The energy and excitement on campus were unmatched as students, staff, and families gathered to honor the school’s spirit and community.
This wonderful tradition begain in the year 2000 and was spearheaded by two beloved staff members, Ms. Debbie Parkinson, PAES Assessment Instructor, and Ms. Lee Ann Reigel, High School Counselor. Their vision was to create a sense of unity and school spirit that would resonate across campus. Thanks to their dedication, Homecoming has become one of Vanguard’s favorite pastimes, requiring hundreds of hours of annual planning and the support of countless volunteers.
Maria Pasquarello, High School Program Coordinator, said, “Vanguard's Homecoming is celebrating a sense of community and belonging. It’s about feeling connected to a place and to people that we share a big part of our world with. It’s a day of unity, rejuvenating spirit and a time-honored tradition that makes this day my favorite day of the school year!”
This year’s festivities began with the annual Homecoming Feast in the Activities Center. Staff and classrooms prepared a delicious meal, setting the tone for a day of gratitude and togetherness. Students and staff reflected on the people and things they are thankful for—a perfect start to the celebration.
The senior class officially kicked off the day, proudly walking through a vibrant balloon arch as their classmates cheered them on. They paved the way for the Homecoming Court, who followed in style, arriving in convertibles. The highlight of the moment was the crowning of this year’s Homecoming King, Michael Moleski, and Queen, Riley Millison.
The excitement continued with a rousing performance of the National Anthem by the Vanguard Vocals, followed by the annual Turkey Bowl touch football game. The Blue and Gold teams delivered an action-packed match, cheered on by the enthusiastic Vanguard cheerleaders. Adding to the fun, Vanguard’s new Executive Director, Tom Quinn, joined the game, fully embracing the school’s traditions and showcasing his team spirit.
This milestone anniversary was a reflection of the hard work, pride, and dedication of everyone involved. A special thank-you goes to Ms. Parkinson and Ms. Reigel for their unwavering commitment to The Vanguard School for 25 years and counting. Their leadership and vision have made Homecoming a cornerstone of the Vanguard experience. Here’s to another 25 years of tradition and unforgettable memories!
