An Unexpected Meeting Opens Doors at Vanguard

A chance encounter in the community recently turned into an exciting opportunity for Vanguard! While out together, several Vanguard students were delighted to discover Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro at the Elmwood Zoo. The two graciously stopped for a photo with our students and everyone shared encouraging words about the important work happening at Vanguard.
That memorable meeting soon led to an exciting opportunity for Vanguard Executive Director Tom Quinn, who was invited to participate in a select roundtable discussion at the Governor's Residence hosted by First Lady Lori Shapiro.
As part of her ongoing focus on expanding employment opportunities and services for adults with disabilities, the First Lady convened state leaders in Special Education, Health and Human Services, and Vocational Rehabilitation to discuss ways to strengthen support systems.
Tom was proud to share Vanguard's innovative programs and advocate for the needs of our students and alumni, ensuring their voices are part of this important conversation. It's another example of Vanguard's commitment to Learning for Life, and we look forward to the positive impact these new connections and collaborations may bring.
