Educators Launch New Early Learning Website with Special Education Resources for Parents and Students

PAOLI, Pa.-April 11, 2011-Valley Forge Educational Services (www.vfes.net), a leading expert in educational solutions for young children, adolescents and pre-21 adults, announced today improved research-based early learning programs and a new website for parents of children with developmental and learning challenges.

The Luma Center™ for Development and Learning at Valley Forge Educational Services offers families resources and support in developing educational and therapeutic programming for children with special education needs. The center’s new website, www.lumacenter.org, provides comprehensive information on support, services and resources for special needs students and their families. The center draws on research-based practices, approaches and techniques to individualize programs that meet the needs and interests of each child and family, including:

  • Foundations: Foundations is a M-F morning program for 5-6 year olds that includes three key components: Play/social skills, early literacy and pre-handwriting skills. This program is designed for children who may need reinforcement in foundational skills for learning in a small group setting. The Foundations program will incorporate our new Nemours Bright Start early literacy program and the Handwriting Without Tears program.
  • Super K’s: Super K’s is a M/W/F afternoon group for 4-5 year olds who attend morning pre-k/kindergarten and need extra support in the areas of language, motor, sensory and social skills. Guided play and activity based projects will facilitate readiness and skill development for a successful kindergarten year. Families will be invited to participate in learning opportunities with their children. This is an integrated program with weekly group speech and occupational therapy services provided. A learning profile will be developed for each child.
  • Playstars: Playstars is a T/TH afternoon group for 3-4 year olds who need further development of language, play and social interaction skills. The small groups provide each child with individual attention and opportunities to develop and practice skills needed in order to be successful in a larger preschool program. This program may supplement your child’s existing preschool program.
