Work Incentives & Benefits Management Planning
Thursday, March 25th, 2010, 6:00 pm
Presenter Michelle Leahy, Transitional Work Incentive Coordinator for AHEDD, will help families and students with these questions:
- Are you or a family member unsure how employment income may affect SSI or SSDI benefits?
- Will you graduate from high school and interested in understanding how work may affect your benefits?
Young adults with disabilities often overlook the impact of government benefits, career planning, and employment choice on school-to-adult life transition. Myths, misconceptions and lack of knowledge about earned income, in respect to eligibility and continuation of Social Security benefits, often prevail. As a result, individuals (with disabilities) who desire employment may avoid work, limit their earnings, or fear income and health insurance loss. Work incentive counseling optimizes an individual’s understanding of how work impacts Social Security benefits and assists individuals in maximizing federal and state work incentives. This presentation is made possible by The Vanguard School’s Career Center in cooperation with AHEDD.
