Valley Forge Educational Services announces the opening of a newly-constructed, 6500-square-foot Education Center/Cafeteria. In addition to providing flexible space for student and faculty dining, approximately one-third of the Center has been allocated to a state-of-the-art teaching kitchen in which young people with special needs will learn vocational skills in the culinary arts. Jacque Murray, Director of the Vanguard Transition Center, will share expertise on how to build a successful transition program on the VTC model at the 2011 PA Community on Transition Conference at Pennsylvania State University. Murray will present July 20 on “A Defined and Successful Transition Program: Models of Success.” The goal of the conference is to promote effective and successful transition to adulthood for youth and young adults with disabilities.

Thirty five West Chester University music student teachers visited VFES to attend a practicum seminar developed to raise instructional awareness about students who may have ASD, sensory processing disorders, and /or delayed auditory processing. Tips on social cognitive awareness were stressed and the student teachers observed and debriefed instructional practices from music classes taught by Vanguard music teacher, Jodi Jianniney. VFES Director of Professional Development, Maria Kreiter, and Vanguard School Psychologist, Christine Blaine facilitated the practicum.
