…Paoli…Students at The Vanguard School, an Approved Private School for Special Education at Valley Forge Educational Services, learned about a wide variety of career paths as they travelled to different stations during the School’s Career Day on April 28, 2010. Career Day is one of countless initiatives that the School provides as part of its “Learning for Life” philosophy.

Jane Gordon, who spent a year organizing the event, said, “Career Day gives Vanguard students the opportunity to explore possible career choices, meet adults pursuing different types of work, and ask questions.” Faculty members from the School’s Career Center, an education program unit that prepares students for college, post-secondary programs, and/or employment to the best of their ability, helped to organize Career Day.

Middle and Upper School students selected three sessions to attend, and Lower School students selected two. The careers represented spanned a broad range. Students heard about the rewards and challenges of pursuing a career as a ballet dancer, bloodhound tracker, EMT, singer/songwriter, chief of police, Mary Kay consultant, nurse, writer, realtor, veterinary technician, farmer, constable, IT professional, photographer, woodcrafter, naturalist, service/therapy dog trainer, bagpiper, professor, plumber, sheriff, horticulturist and chef.
