…Paoli, PA…Parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) can struggle to find appropriate childcare. To help them, and to educate potential sitters about ASD, Valley Forge Educational Services will offer a four-session workshop “Creating Kinships: Matching Families with ASD Children with Sitters” with support from educators from West Chester University and Wanna Play Program.

The workshop series is designed to support families with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  The sessions will help:

  • Parents recognize the effects of stress on physical and mental health of all family members and the special considerations for hiring childcare for an ASD child
  • Train people interested in working with the ASD population to assist families by allowing time for outside employment or social and/or recreational break time, and for full or part-time or intermittent paid work
  • Create an opportunity for parents and potential sitters to meet

“Creating Kinships: Matching Families with ASD Children with Sitters” will be held on the following dates (attendees must attend each session):
Thursday, October 7, 2010, 5:30pm-8:30pm
Thursday October 14, 2010, 5:30pm-8:30pm
Tuesday, October 19, 2010, 5:30pm-8:30pm
Thursday, October 21, 2010, 5:30pm-8:30pm
Location: VFES Activities Center, 1777 North Valley Road, Malvern, PA 19355

“Creating Kinships” is part of the VFES Colloquia series which provides learning opportunities for parents, educators and members of the community to meet and learn from experts in specialized education. ACT 48 credit is provided for instructional certificate holders.
