Going for the Gold

Going for the Gold

For more than 10 years, students from The Vanguard School have been going for the gold in the Chester County Special Olympics. This year, 65 students participated in the May 4th event at the Coatesville Area Senior High School stadium.

Our students competed in the 50 meter dash and 100 meter dash, tennis ball throw, softball throw, standing long jump and the running long jump. Prior to the event, students trained to improve their running starts, running speed, throwing skills and motor coordination for jumping. And their hard work paid off! Not only did the students have a great time taking part in this exciting athletic event, they learned the benefits of good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Parents, extended family members, and 30 members of the VFES staff enjoyed the opportunity to cheer  the students on throughout the competition.  And this year, we were also able to purchase tee shirts for the “Vanguard Team” to wear for the event thanks to funds provided by Best Buy and the Vanguard School PTO.

Everyone came home a winner. Now it’s time to start training for next year….!
